DC Girl

July 26th, 2011 by Blake Sinclair

Most of the model shoots in the studio are for ecomm purposes, so they’re pretty informational. Make everything clean and evenly lit so the clothes are easy to see. Every once in while I can break away from that and do something a little more fun. This was from the women’s line for DC. Still pretty sterile, but I kinda like it. It didn’t run in Black and White, either.

It’s been 30 years since Simon Anderson innovated the 3 fin thruster. These are the sunglasses made in honor of the anniversary.

Tofino

July 14th, 2011 by Blake Sinclair

I went up to Tofino, Canada a couple months ago to work on a job with Susanna. It was awesome to see the old crew, and spend some time outdoors. I brought my Hasselblad along, and luckily had some time to shoot around the island.

I shot some surfboards a while back for a buyers guide. This is a Mark Phipps for Quik.

A Shoe

July 12th, 2011 by Blake Sinclair

It’s been almost a year since I started shooting for Quiksilver. When we moved back to California, I was still freelancing. Retouching, shooting, assisting, same stuff I’ve been doing for years. With Olive being born, I knew I needed some sort of stability (and health insurance), so I picked up a gig over at Quik. I love the company, and it’s pretty cool to build up an in-house operation. I started as a freelancer, and got hired on fulltime within a few months. I shoot every day, and 99% of it is in studio. For me, that’s a huge change. I worked with a few still life guys in NY, so I know my way around a table top. I’m just trying to keep my aesthetic sensibilities in the studio.

In short, I’ll start posting up some of what I’m shooting in there. It’s fairly sterile, and totally different than my normal way of shooting, but it’s what keeps me busy.

New Surfboard Day

February 18th, 2011 by Blake Sinclair

I got a new surfboard. An old friend of mine started shaping boards in high school. I’ve always admired the odd creations he’d float around on in the water. Never the normal surfboard, but he kept things classic. So I ordered a 5′ 7″ EPS quad fish. Before I took it out in the water, I snapped some shots of it in the studio. He drew a goat/ram/dragon head on it.

New Life

February 18th, 2011 by Blake Sinclair

Since I moved back to California, had a kid, and adjusted to suburban life, I found a new job as an in-house photographer for a large action sports company. I spend a lot of time shooting in studio, but still get out on the occasional environmental lifestyle or fashion shoot. It’s kind of fun getting into still life. I enjoyed my still life class at school, and had fun with the few jobs that came my way in NYC. So expect a little change of scenery around here.

Surfing

October 12th, 2010 by Blake Sinclair

I grabbed my old underwater point and shoot and went surfing yesterday. Waves were terrible, but it was fun to screw around with the camera. Shot for This Is A Photo Blog “Summer” assignment.
